{Love Story} Wedding Bells.

This is the third installment of our love story! Last week I shared our dating and engagement story with you. Today I am so happy to share our wedding story!
When we started thinking about our wedding, I dreamed of a BIG ole’ church and a BIG ole’ production. I promptly bought a dress with a traditional wedding in mind. However, when I started planning the BIG wedding, I started freaking out. I plan all day at work and the last thing I want to do at home is focus on the minor details. Every time I looked at a wedding check-list, I had a breakdown… With that in mind, J and I decided to go to Jamaica. I returned the dress and purchased one more reflective of the venue. We married on the beach with our closest family members.
I loved the beach wedding because it was casual. This relieved me of my bridal duties and forced me to make only one big decision…. the bouquet. I farmed this out to my sis (she’s crazy talented with floral arrangements!) and she talked to the wedding planner at the resort to create the bouquet. I couldn’t have been happier.
Once the details were sorted, we celebrated with a traditional dinner the night before our ceremony. On our wedding day, I spent the day in the spa sipping on mimosas and met my daddy at 4:30 PM on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. He kicked off his flip flops and (almost fell) walked me down the aisle.
Our ceremony was short and we wrote our own vows. Afterwards, we celebrated with cake and champagne followed by a fancy dinner with our family!
The day was perfect. The weather was awesome. And the bride was NOT stressed an ounce.
Following the wedding, Jason and I spent several more glorious days at the Couples Resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica! We wrapped up our summer wedding by celebrating with our extended family and friends for not one but TWO receptions hosted and planned by everyone but ME! I loved every second of our wedding celebration.
Tell me: Did you have a destination wedding?

{Love Story} Engagement.

As promised, in spirit of Valentine’s Day, I am sharing our love story with you… Earlier this week we talked about our dating life. J and I dated a year and half before he popped the question… This story inspired my first blog post ever and I am sure only two people read it (my mom and sis!). I want to share it with you today as we take a step back into time and relive one of my favorite moments!
Here is the original post circa 2009 originally titled “Put A Ring On It!”:
We went on a walk in Grant Park on my 25th birthday (August 28th). Jason suggested that we walk by the Buckingham fountain to get a picture with the Chicago skyline in the background. As we walked up to the fountain there were two beautiful brides getting their wedding portraits taken… I’m all Oh my!! They are stunning!!… And he’s all… Yeah, let’s keep it movin’!…

Anyway, we get to the fountain and Jason reminds me that I was not at the fountain to gawk at brides but to get a photo taken. I huff and puff and finally get into position when we are interrupted by another couple that wants us to take their picture. Jason takes their picture and they take ours… and then he redirects me to my photo shoot. Yet again, my photo shoot is delayed by some guy that wants us to buy 3 postcards for $5. I’m eager to be distracted because I hate how long it takes to get a photo taken by Jason. I love him but my word!! He has to focus the lens and make sure the sun is shining the right way and all sorts of things that keeps me complaining… Anyway, we give the guy some money and I’m back in my pose waiting for the shot… I’m really frustrated by this point because I’ve been standing in the same spot for like 10 minutes and the brides are already finishing up their shots and I have not even started with mine…
And then…
Jason is down on one knee digging for his camera and says, “I have a better idea.” I don’t really know what he said after that because I gravitated towards the shiny rock in his hand. I jumped on him!! I’m pretty sure he was knocked over a bit! Finally, he calms me down and asks if I’ll marry him. I have to admit I was quivering… He put a ring on my finger!! So many things were going through my head like, “look how the rainbow shines off of the diamond” and “I guess we are not going to be dating until we are forty” and  “who should I text first?”… We decide to sit down and make some calls/texts at the closest bench so we could share our joy with our families and friends.
I’d have to say this moment was one of the greatest in my life… we are both very happy and eager to begin our lives as Mr. & Mrs… and for me, I get to stare at the rainbows my ring makes for the rest of my life!!
How’s that for an engagement story?
If you want to peek at my second ever post, you can see a few of our engagement shots here.

{Love Story} Dating Life.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day and all things love, I want to share our love story with you this week. Join me as I share our dating, engagement and wedding story…
J and I met when I was twelve years old ( I am 28 and he is 32) in youth group. We were friends, running in the same circle. However, until I was twenty-three, J was just an accessory in my life. We weren’t very close and he dated a few of my friends, so he was always around, just not a key player. I can say this because he feels the same about me.
Things changed a little when I lived next door to one of our best friends, you see, for the first time in our lives, we were both single at the same time. I just pulled myself out of a totally dysfunctional relationship and he had been single for a long time. In efforts to cheer me up, he started visiting me weekly. We would go to movies together, have dinner, and just hang out. I enjoyed the company because I was really lonely.
After months of this consistent behavior, J and I grew closer. I trusted him and he morphed into one of my best friends. I didn’t really think about dating him and certainly did not think about marriage until one night…
This night changed everything.

Long story short, one of my best girlfriends came in from out of town and I invited J to come along with us for a night out. I told her I thought he would be a catch so they should meet. I told J the same story about her. Somehow at the end of the night, we ended up kissing. Shocked by the kiss, we avoided talking about it for close to a month.
After nearly a month of awkward silence and quick uncomfortable glances, we decided to talk about the “kiss”.  During our chat, we realized we cared deeply for each other and thought it was time to take our friendship to the next level…

We dated over a year before getting engaged.
A few highlights of our dating life included:
going to Chicago.
Pine Mountain, GA weekend getaway for our one year dating anniversary.

uk football games.

pub crawl and touring in Pittsburgh.

It was important to both of us to take things slow and really get to know each other on another level.  It was super fun! This season of life will forever be engraved in my heart as it set the stage for where we are today… happily married and in love.
What special things do you remember from your early dating years?
P. S. Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow for {Love Story} Engagement.

February Wallpaper.

I don’t know why but I love changing my laptop wallpaper each month.
This month when I searched the web for a new wallpaper calendar, I found this dude and loved it’s attitude. 🙂 If you look a little closer, the background is filled with tiny little hearts. Aww!
February is not my favorite month but it is sprinkled with awesomeness…
1. It is a short month.
2. My mama’s birthday.
3. V-Day.
4. March (sign of warmth) is around the corner.
5. The weekends are filled with college basketball.
What kind of awesomeness is February bringing you?
